  • Oxford, Mississippi is a historic town in north central Mississippi and the home of The University of Mississippi.
  • Oxford is known for its college town charm and quaint community of people who are deeply invested in the quality of small town life.
  • Planted in 1995 by Rev. Shane Sunn, Christ Pres rooted itself as an "in town" church, just off the historic Oxford Square on University Avenue.
  • Curt Presley served as Lead Pastor beginning in 2001, before becoming an Associate Pastor of Congregational Care in the summer of 2018. He departs the church on January 1, 2023 for a new call.
  • Les Newsom was hired in the summer of 2018 to serve as the church's third Lead Pastor.
  • In 2013 Christ Pres secured land in what is now called the Oxford Commons portion of the east side of Oxford.
  • Christ Pres moved into a brand-new facility in August of 2020.
  • Presently, Christ Pres is a growing congregation of more than 700 members, communing and non-communing.
  • The church exists to Proclaim a Hope, which roots it in a commitment to a Reformed, Gospel-centered exposition of Scripture, Build a Home that is consistent with the Biblical principles of church life and enriching community, and to Launch a Healing providing a Kingdom-centered witness to the community through acts of service.

Job Description

The Hospitality Coordinator (HC) at Christ Presbyterian Church in Oxford exists to create a sense of welcome for the church body as well as visitors in our midst. This is a Biblical call to facilitate God's welcome to repentant sinners in tangible ways. Hebrews 10:2, "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." This position will consists of 30 hrs/wk and will include all of the responsibilities listed below. HC will work with the entire staff to facilitate the ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Events

  • HC will maintain working knowledge of any and all church-wide events.
  • Plan, recruit, and execute all church wide events.
  • Maintain regular calendar for strategic church wide events.
  • Plan and execute "periodic breakfasts in lieu of Sunday School" type events. (New Member b'fast, etc.)
  • Manage Enfolding Team as staO facilitator for any events directed at the assimilation of new members into the church body

Catering

  • Provide catering services for various regular church events such as (but not limited to): Men's Ministry Tuesday Luncheon, 20Something's twice monthly Sunday night dinners, every-other-month Officer Meetings, manage M&M Food Coordinator and Youth Ministry for Wednesday night meals, Women's Ministry Special Events, etc.
  • Develop relationships with vendors for catering automation
  • Maintain a catering budget in accordance with Church Budget
  • Inventory catering supplies in church kitchen
  • Oversee laundering of tablecloths and inventory needs
  • Be available for any other ministry catering needs that might arise in future programming

Bereavement

  • Manage Bereavement Team to facilitate funerals at the church
  • Cater family meal/food for funerals
  • Communicate with funeral home for staffing needs
  • Assist with pastors on day of the funeral with organization

Sunday Morning

  • Manage Sunday morning Greeters by regular reminders to elders
  • Maintain sign up lists for Greeters
  • Work with deacons to insure ushers are present for each service, especially on large attendance Sundays (game weekends, etc.)
  • Work with deacons to have oOering assistants in place for each service

Miscellaneous Outreach

  • Help coordinate "at large ministry" outreach events (RUF Milk & Cookies, etc.)
  • Coordinate "First Fruits" initiatives for church (Dads and Donuts, Christmas Chocolate Bombs, etc.)
  • Be available for future initiatives in the area of hospitality (Trunk or Treat, etc.)
  • Coordinate "member meals" ministry for new babies, near family member loss, or injury.
